New Post

Well, it’s been a while since I posted last.  I’ve been busy, but I think I mention that in most of my posts.

Election time is coming and I am ready.  I am pro Obama.  I really think that he can do excellent things for our country, but whoever gets in is going to have a lot of work ahead of them.

On the computer front, my iBook had some problems.  There was an IC on the logic board that needed pressure on it in order to work.  This is a common problem.  I placed an O-ring on the chip and then squeezed the computer to my coffee table with a pipe wrench.  I was able to get the computer to boot and I was able to save all of my files.  From there I swapped the computer with my friend Chuck.  I got a Sony Vaio laptop out of the deal.  I believe that we both really made out on this deal.  It’s a 10″ laptop which is perfect for me.  I was using a 14″ iBook and sometimes a 15″ Toshiba.  That is not so fun to lug around.  Especially when riding a bike 33 miles to get to and from work.  This lightweight notebook is soooo ideal.  I am running Windows XP (which it came with) and Ubuntu on it.  I use both operating systems every day and I think this is a great machine.

I’ve finished doing work on the website for work.  It’s been a learning experience as I’ve been working with Flash a bit and it’s new to me.  Also, I’ve been working with Dreamweaver and that has been a lot of fun for me too.  I like it more now that I know how to use it.  Before it was not so good for me because everything that I was doing in it was in table format and I did not like that.  I am more of a fan of div tags.  Anyway, I’m not some great web dev or anything, but it’s something that’s fun to do.

I’ve been studying a million different things.  I started with Security+ and EnCE.  Then I went to CCNA.  Now I am looking at ITIL and PMP.  It’s insane I know.  I hope that I will settle on something soon.  I am looking to move up in my career and I think that the ITIL may have what I need.  The problem is that I can’t find good resources on the ITIL yet.  I know that there is a ton of info on it, but I need a good starting point.  I’ve always believed that the best way to learn something is to start at the begining and finish at the end.  If anyone has advice on ITIL please let me know.

This has been a rough weekend.  My cousin died on Friday in a car crash.  I don’t think that it’s really hit me yet.

We took the dog to the dog park today.   That was really nice.  He got to run around and play with a lot of dogs.  I hope that we can do this often.  He has been sleeping for hours:)

This week I go to Ohio for another project.  This will be a quick one though.  I leave Wednesday night and I will return Thursday.  It will be nice to have a little notebook for the airplane ride.

I’m listening to a thunderstorm right now and it is quite nice.  We have not had one in a while.

Drown by the Pumpkins is playing on the radio right now.  That is nice.  Good song.

Ah, politics.  I do not like McCain and Palin.  I feel that they are really negative based on their debates and ads.  I also feel that they do not really have our interest in mind as a freeze to all funding is a bad idea.  If you cut off education, what is the point of even trying to succeed in this country.  I think that the war is a really bad thing too.  I have no idea what it means to win a war, but I can tell you that we lost.  We lost based on the simple fact that there are more people dead in Iraq than people that died at the WTC attacks.  If it was Bin Laden that we were after, we’ve done a pathetic job at getting him.  Over five years later and we still don’t have it.  I say it’s time to switch tactics, but that’s just my opinion.

Well, I think that’s about all for now.

That is all.

Updates

I’m at work, so I don’t have long to report, but here’s where things are at.  After a couple years away from the books, I’m back at it in full force.  I’m studying for the Security+ certificaiton and the EnCE certification.  It feels good to be able to study again.  I love learning new things but it was good to take a little break from the books for a while.

I wrote the new company website and it should be able to go live next month.

Recently I went on a 30+ mile bike ride.  That was neat.

I really like Chinese food!  I’ve been hooked on it as of late…  Yum!

Anyway, it’s been busy, but it’s going to be more busy.  I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.

November will be interesting.  I support Obama.

The Olympics are fun.  We’ve had a good time watching the U.S. not get ‘crushed’ by the French (although, that dude is huge and a really good swimmer).  Phelps is amazing.   Media people are just funny.

That’s all for now.  Back to playing with computers…

Cheers!

World Swim Against Malaria

So, things are well.  Jen and I got memberships to the Y last week.  That was a good thing.  I went three times this week and it felt really good.  It’s nice to be back swimming again.  I missed it quite a bit.  Trying to fit it in to the schedule is a bit tough, but it’s working.

Today was the official ‘World Swim Against Malaria’ day.  My site is here.  Jen and I donated 4 nets total and swam a total of 2300 yards.  It was fun…

Other than that I took off a half day on Thursday and all day Friday.  That was nice because I really needed some time off of work.  I am hoping that when I go back on Monday I am a little bit more refreshed.  I know that I still need some more time off soon, but I’m thinking that can wait until later in the track season (or after the track season).

Politically, I’m pretty sick of the media…  I’m really waiting for the next primary to see what will happen between Hillary and Barack.  I keep hearing that Hillary should drop out, but I don’t that she should.  Even though I am a Barack supporter, I think that she has the right to run all the way up until the end.  I am thinking that McCain will not be our next president.  We will see.

Today it hit 70 degrees out.  Oh my that was nice.  It was nice to finally have the windows open in the house.

That’s about it for now.   Time to go enjoy Saturday night…

Cheers!

First post of 2008…

Hello all…

This is my first post of the year and it’s February! So here goes…

This year has a much better start than last year - no car accidents! Last year this time I got to carry a breathing machine around with me… I’m happy to be done with that. Oh, and it’s been a lot of fun having the Prius. Winter has been bad for gas milage (Avg. mpg 35 to 38), but my best run was in the middle of summer when I hit a shocking 64.5 mpg average! That was awesome…

I went to Mexico twice last year and I’ve been studying a lot of Spanish since. I love the language and am looking forward to getting better at it. A lot of the clients that I work with speak either English, Spanish, or Japanese. Perhaps someday I will be able to speak all three languages. I’m really interested in Spanish at the moment though…

I played a show in January for Amnesty International which was a lot of fun. I’ve been writing a lot of music as of late and that has been fun. I’ve worked with different people over the last year and it’s been fun. I played with Gary Gilstrap and The Identity Theft at the show to fill my set. I also played with Gary on his set which was fun… I’m looking forward to doing more musically this year too. My wife (who sang professionally unlike me) is going to join me for recording and playing out which will be a lot of fun. Also, I will probably be playing with Gary and the Identity Theft again. Adding to that, Chuck Lawton may be joining in with me at some point this year, and the list may go on and on… I was asked to play a show at the Miramar Theater. I think that would be a lot of fun. I’ve never been there, but I’d like to go sometime. I hear it’s a pretty neat place… Anyway, I’ve got some neat ideas for a show and it may incorporate say 10 to 15 people, so we will see how it goes. I’m thinking that I may do something pretty neat this summer… I will post more as the idea’s come to me… That’s about it on the music front…

What else… I’m still working at Base2. I believe that my first trip of the year will be either later this month or next month… I will be going to KY to start off the year. It will be a different kind of project for me, but it shouldn’t be too bad…

Track is starting up next month. I will be coaching at GHS again for shot put and discus. I’m looking forward to that. I’ve always liked the track season. For me it’s the promise of spring / summer. I like it because it starts so cold, but ends quite warm… Anyway, it will be good to see everyone again and I’m looking forward to having a great season…

Well, I believe that’s about all that is going on for now… I hope this year I can post more and bring more attention to this site. I really like having my own site, but I need to use it more…

Until later!

Jerry

I should post more often…

So, it’s been quite some time and I have not posted anything…  I guess I will take a minute to catch up on things.

Since my last post, I’ve been to Mexico twice for work.  Both times were interesting and exciting.  I was exposed to a whole new way of life.  I was in the center of the country in the mountains.  That was neat.  The weather was great and the people were really nice.  I was able to learn enough Spanish since my last post here to be able to get around.  I went to Leon and Queretaro.  Both places were different and exciting, but it’s nice to be back home.  I like to be home.  It’s nice here.

Anyway, what else.  I’ve been playing a lot of music as of late and that has been fun.  Other than that, I’ve been pretty busy with work.  There’s been a lot to do and not much time.  We are bringing on a new person tomorrow and I’m looking forward to that.  I like meeting new people.

I’m trying to think of something meaningful to say, but I don’t know what to say.  I don’t really know of new news in the world right now because I’ve been pretty busy.  That’s okay though, I’ll watch a couple Daily Shows and be back on top of things in no time.

Speaking of Jon Stewart…  It’s interesting to see how popular Stephen Colbert candidacy has become.  If he actually gets picked in SC I’d be shocked though.  Then I would be certain I’d know where our country stands on the idea that elections mean anything.  Speaking of that, I can’t believe how popular our elections are in other countries.  I’ve now learned in Canada and in Mexico they pay very close attention to our elections.  I can’t believe it.  I feel terrible that as an American I represent hatred and war and lots of bad things.  I go to other countries and the first thing I do is explain how the American people are so very different from the Bush administration.  The problem is that if we are so different from our government, then why did we vote him in?  That’s a hard one to answer, but I hope that the next election goes better…  Who knows…

So that’s about it for now.  I’m sure that I will have more to write about later, and as long as I have time to do so, I will try and post more often…

Good night…

On to Mexico…

So, I just got back to South Carolina and it was hot. Over 100 degrees is too much for me. I like being home…

Now I’m trying to learn as much Spanish as possible so that I will be somewhat ready for Mexico in a couple of weeks. It doesn’t help that I am not feeling the best. I think that I just have a little head cold, but I hope that it goes away soon (otherwise I think that it may be a sinus infection). Well, I’ve got a lot of work to do in very little time.

Later,

Jerry

To South Carolina and then Mexico!?! - Nine Yr. Anniversary

So, I’m going to South Carolina next week.  It’s been busy getting setup for this trip because it is last minute.  That’s okay though, this is my first trip of the year.  So, I’ve been pretty lucky to be home this long.  Good news is that this install should be a piece of cake.  I like the small installs because they are quick, but we don’t make too much money off of them.

Mexico is another story though.  I’m heading down to Leon in the beginning of September.  I am nervous because I barely know any Spanish.  I am sitting in a coffee shop now trying to learn it, but when I put my new DVD in to play it, I got a media access error (no matter which player I used).  Damn copyright protection.  I think that it has something to do with that, but I’m not about to horse around with that now when I have a working DVD player at home.  So I thought that I’d blog for a minute considering that I don’t do that enough…

Let’s see, Jen is at home working right now.  She is hosting her first Jockey Person to Person party.  I already put in my time today, so it’s nice to sit here, have a cup of coffee (small vanilla latte), and listen to some music.  I am currently listening to Alice in Chains (Rotten Apple).  Jar of Flies is a great album…  I can’t believe that they are playing here in Milwaukee at the end of August.

Anyway, what else.  It’s been hot out lately.  I’m looking forward to Autumn, but I’m guessing that this heat wave will end soon.  I hope so.  I hear that it’s over 100 in SC right now, and I don’t do very well in that kind of heat.  Well, there will be air conditioning most places that I will be in, so I’m not to worried.

So, Jen and I have been married nine years as of today.  That’s pretty cool.  We are planing on doing something pretty cool for our 10 year.  Time to start saving and planning.

That’s about that for now.  I think it’s about time to head home.
